Basically you have students who are protesting a genocide in Gaza who have effectively been shut down. And in fact, these universities are in danger of being wrecked, number one, by the government and two, by rich Jewish donors. It’s really quite remarkable what’s going on. PROF. JOHN MEARSHEIMER: No, it doesn’t control public opinion. If you look at public opinion in the United States, you look at surveys, what you see is that there’s not that much sympathy for Israel. And lots of people believe there’s a genocide taking place. And I believe lots of people would criticize Israel if they felt that they could without being severely punished.What makes the lobby so deadly effective is that it basically moves in on anyone who criticizes Israel and tries to destroy their career. And in most cases, they’re successful. This is why the lobby is so powerful. But you want to understand that there are lots of people in the body politic who are super critical of Israel. And furthermore, there are lots of policymakers who know exactly what’s going on. And I believe there are a good number of policymakers and a good number of legislators who think about this whole situation much the way we do. But you just can’t open your mouth and say that because if you do, the lobby will put its crosshairs on you and it’ll finish you off. |

JOHN MEARSHEIMER: I was, of course, being facetious, but the key point here is the point that we have reached in our society is one where anybody who protests against the genocide in Gaza is identified as an anti-Semite. You want to think about that? This is really ludicrous. I hate to use hot language like this because I’ve been sort of training myself over the years to stay away from hot language because it’s not very effective in forums like this. But this is ludicrous, right? People who were out legitimately protesting a genocide, exercising their freedom of speech, are turned into anti-Semites. They’re deported, they’re put in prisons in Louisiana. They’re taken off the street by groups that look like the Gestapo at work. You just sort of wonder what is going on here? Have we lost our minds? |

Alon Mizrahi@alon_mizrahi · Dec 28, 2024 Why it's so important when you speak up about Gaza There isn't a shortage of reasons to resist what Israel the US, Britain, and the rest of the white colonial club are doing to Palestine; anyone with any shred of functioning dignity resists this open evil, even without knowing anything about the history of Palestine and the historic curse of Zionism. But, in the face of so much organized denial and obfuscation, insisting on speaking about the genocide in the correct terms, calling it by name, naming the guilty parties, and describing what they're doing in detail have a meaning that goes beyond justice for Palestinians, which is a hugely important mission in itself. What I'm driving at goes to what the (Western colonial, capitalist, and Jewish) powers that be are trying to accomplish here: a complete and total separation between reality and discourse. |
They are trying to not only exterminate the Palestinian people to establish a psychotic, messianic Jewish kingdom that subjugated directly the entire Middle East; they are trying to create a cultural environment where none of this is happening. They are trying to manipulate all of humanity into accepting as genuine a landscape where truth and its representation are antithetical to each other, in the name of destroying Palestine and establishing that kingdom of murder and theft while maintaining a facade of cultured humanity. If they succeed in this attempt we will be living not in a partial dystopia, but in a full one. If they can enforce, in real-time, not in retrospect, a narrative of reality that's so extremely divorced from actual reality as we clearly see it, their powers of manipulation reach the ultimate degree. They will have complete control over their societies. So, when you're speaking up about Gaza's genocide and deliberate extermination, you're not only serving justice on a local and crucial level, you're resisting one of the most ambitious and dangerous manifestations of tyranny in all of history. So don't let anything or anyone discourage or dispirit you - not even your own sadness and pessimism. Keep on speaking up about Gaza and Palestine. You are fighting evil, in the simplest and purest meaning of the word. And I love you for doing that |
