ShortShort News@ShortShort_News Jan 14, 2025 ガザについては何もかもがグロテスクで嫌なものだ。これはジェノサイドだ。毎日、戦争犯罪が行われている。 しかし、これはアメリカがしてきた多くの事と、そう変わらない。ショッキングなのは、私たちが目撃しているからだ。病院や大学を爆破しながら、浮かれているラビやイスラエル国防軍兵士たちがTikTokで拡散されているのを見ている。拷問の報告もある。 だけど、言っておくが、これは他の事例と変わらないんだ。ベトナムへのナパーム弾の使用、北朝鮮への絨毯爆撃。ちなみに、1951年、1952年の北朝鮮では、カメラはなかった。しかし、そこでも大規模な絨毯爆撃が行われた。カンボジアとラオスでも同じことをした。 私は戦後、これらの場所の多くを訪れた。カンボジアも歩いた。そして、広大な場所がある。「いや、そこには行けない」と言われる。まだたくさんの兵器が野ざらしになっているからだ。不発弾もまだある。そして恐ろしいものも。 そしてアメリカは、CIAが送り込んだラオス政府によって負わされた負債、大規模な絨毯爆撃という不法な爆撃作戦の後、50年経った今でもカンボジアに借金の返済を求めている。

それと、広島と長崎について私たちが知っていること全て、明るみに出るまで長い時間がかかったが。最終的に、戦争を早く終わらせるためだったという公式見解は、全くのでたらめだったことがはっきりと証明された。これは、日本が降伏を懇願した後だった。アメリカの力を見せつける以外に、爆弾を使う理由はなかった。その他諸々も。そして、２つも使った。広島の後、再考することもなく、長崎への投下は数日後、官僚的なスケジュール通りに行われた。 いや、この意味で、ガザは変わらない。 吐き気がする。 そして、これは私の子供たちが初めて鮮明に目撃していることだ。 しかし、今、私はこれらの戦争を経験してきただけでなく、この20年間、これらすべてをより深く理解しようと努めてきた。実のところ、質的には違いはない。

It's shocking because we see it, and we see TikTok feeds of celebrating rabbis and IDF personnel, and so forth, gloating as they blow up a hospital or a university. Or we have the accounts of torture. But I'm telling you, it's not different. Napalming the Vietnamese, carpet bombing North Korea in 1951–52—there were no cameras there, but it was mass carpet bombing. What we did in Cambodia and Laos—I've seen a lot of these places post-war. To walk through Cambodia, there are still large places you can't go because there's still so much ordnance in the field and there are still unexploded mines—horrible things. And the US is still trying to collect debt from Cambodia 50 years later, after a debt taken on by a CIA-imposed government with an illegal bombing campaign of mass carpet bombing.

Everything we know about Hiroshima and Nagasaki took a long time to come out, but it was finally and definitively established that the official line—that the bombings were necessary to bring the war to an end sooner—was a pile of crap. This was after the Japanese begged to surrender. There was no reason to use the bomb except as a demonstration of American power. They used two of them, without even a second thought after Hiroshima, but Nagasaki went ahead on its bureaucratic schedule just a few days later. No, in this sense, Gaza is not different. It makes me sick. It's something that my kids are seeing vividly for the first time. But since I've now become not only someone who has lived through these other wars but also someone who has spent the last 20 years trying to understand all of this better, it's not qualitatively different, actually."
