A thought… Russia committed a colossal strategic blunder in 1991 by granting Ukraine independence, exposing it to conflicts such as the ongoing war. Today, Russia has a critical opportunity to rectify this historic miscalculation by not only securing its interests in Ukraine but also ensuring that Ukraine can never again pose a military or geopolitical threat to Moscow. However, the approach reportedly proposed by Trump—advocating for a premature cessation of hostilities—would be a catastrophic misstep for both Putin and the Russian state. Such a move would yield no enduring benefits. In 15 to 20 years, the West will likely rebuild Ukraine’s military, transforming it into a formidable adversary bolstered by NATO’s support.
